Cash / planned monthly outgoings
Income-shock scenario
- Planned monthly outgoings, including annual costs / 12
- Reduced monthly income
- Modeled monthly cash shortfall
- Available cash / modeled shortfall
Cash coverage is a simplified ratio, not a prediction of how long you will be financially secure. Bills arrive on dates, asset values change, and the plan may omit important obligations. The amount-remaining percentage is based on take-home income and is not a standardized savings rate.
Formulas and limitations
- Estimated net worth = available cash + other assets - liabilities.
- Planned monthly outgoings = monthly outgoings + additional annual costs / 12.
- Amount remaining = take-home income - planned monthly outgoings.
- Amount-remaining share = amount remaining / take-home income. Not defined when income is zero.
- Cash coverage = available cash / planned monthly outgoings. Not defined when outgoings are zero.
- Scenario income = take-home income × (1 - reduction / 100).
- Scenario shortfall = the greater of zero or outgoings minus scenario income.
- Scenario coverage = cash / shortfall. No finite coverage ratio is calculated when there is no modeled shortfall.
Use full property values in assets and full associated debt in liabilities, or use neither. Do not enter net property equity and also subtract its mortgage. Available cash should exclude restricted funds. A worksheet snapshot is not an audited valuation or a complete budget.
