The PsyOp Series

Ten parts on psychological operations. What the primary documents actually say, what they do not say, and how to tell the difference.

The thesis

The target of a modern psychological operation is not belief. It is the perceptual environment in which belief forms. Change what a population can notice, trust, and hold in common, and you never have to argue with it.

This series works from primary sources: military doctrine, declassified papers, court and congressional records, and the published words of the people involved. Every contested claim carries one of three labels.

MindWar: The Document That Said the Quiet Part

In 1980 two US Army officers argued that the real target of war is not the enemy army but the way whole populations process information. What the paper actually says, and what its internet legend gets wrong.

Before the Word Existed: PsyOp From Antiquity to Gutenberg

Cambyses at Pelusium, Gideon's torches, Mongol terror as policy, the Roman triumph, and the printing press. The techniques are ancient and constant. Only the delivery mechanism changes.

What the declassified record establishes about state experiments on perception, persuasion, and the press, separated from what the record does not.
